Singapore yipeeee!!
We had both been really looking forward to get to singapore. It was only a 4 hour bus trip from Melaka to singapore so we booked the 9am bus so we got there early. We got a taxi to China town to our hostel, Backpackers Inn. It was the wierdist hostel I have ever been in. The guy showed us to our 'dorm' not that it was a dorm, it was basically a huge warehouse with 2 tolets a shower and them about 50 bunk beds seperated off by curtains as dorms. We were right at the end backing our onto the road so it was pretty noisy but the beds were clean and comfy.
The high light of the whole thing for me was A FREE WASHING MACHINE. Everyone thought i was bonkers that I was so excited for this washing machine. James went out for the afternoon while I spent a good 6 hours washing and drying the entire contents of both our rucksacks.
That night we got to meet up with Sarah and Luke. We went over to Clark Quays, a really nice area with loads of nice bars running along the river. It was a little out of price range so we went to one of the hawker food centres for tea then back to the bar next to the hostels for some expensive beers.
First night sleep was hurrendous, so noisy, no one ever turned the lights off so didnt get much sleep.
That morning we went and explored china town and then walked down to marina bay sands hotel (the one with the ship on top). We walked in the ridiculous heat and had a quick look in the shopping centre before going up to the observation deck. The views were amazing as you'll see in the pictures. From one level you could see the infinity pool on top and wow it looked amazing, we would of loved to have been able to spend just one night there.
From there we took the subway to find one of the big shopping centres and to go to raffles hotel. We were'nt really impressed witht he raffles we expected some really oustanding hotel and it just was'nt. We walked around the shops inside and did consider coming back for a cocktail but neither of us really wanted to spend $26 on one drink.
Sentosa is a small island literally walking distance from Singapore, there is a little monorail that takes you over and there are beaches andn aquarium and all sortts of activities and things to do. There is also a new Universal studios that opened in 2010, I was so excited to go but it was alot more expensive as it was the school holidays. As soon as we got there though and I saw the big shiny universal world, I was jumping about like a little kid so we decided to splash out and go.
It was no where near as big as the Florida one and not that many rides but we had such a good day. The transformer ride was OMG INCREDIBLE. James's face was a picture, its like a 4d simulator ride but you get in the cart and it is like a rolercoaster but it felt so real we could'nt get over it. At one point your falling off the roof of a high rise building and for a second you honestly forget that its not real. The rest was the usual, jurassic park rides, 2 big rides and the best part a madagascar world, we got to see all the characters and I felt like I was 5 again.
That night we met up with sarah and Luke again for a quick beer.
We went back to Sentosa again the next day to go to the beach and yey, we finally got a day on the beach with no rain! James has finally found the ball he wanted, basically a ball that bounces on the water. He was looking for one since Thailand so he was a very happy boy, throwing his ball and chasing it around the sea.
On to our final leg ouf south east asia which is crazy, time is going so fast.
Hopping below the equator for the first time!!
