Well afetr our finay overnight bus trip in Oz we are finally in Sydney. We were staying at Elephant backpackers but little did we know it was going to turn out to be the worst few nights of the trip so far.
So we go to check in and they had put us in seperate rooms on different floors, even after calling to make sure it was they same room. The then told us all the rooms were full. Either way it was nightmare. I just put my things in the same room as James only to find that most of the beds were empty anyway.
The next night was the same, been moved from room to room, the hostel was just filthy and dirty and so noisy we couldnt wait to get out.
Anyway, since we have so long in Sydney we had decided we would'nt do the touristy things straight away. We went and explored the city a little bit though, we walked to see the opera house and round the harbour, the rocks and darling harbour and then went up george street. The weather was really rubbish and we basically hated our first few days in Sydney.
Are luck soon changed, James gotin touch with Stuart, his friend from home and he invited us to come stay with him and Kate. They were our absolute saviours. Ah it was luxury. We had our won room, own bathroom and they had the nicest apartment and to just to top it off Stu had Fifa James was in his element, and for me well the pool, sauna and jaccuzi made me smile just a little bit.
So the first night with Stu and Kate was great, we were a bit worried what if we didnt get on too well as I had never met either of them but it was like love at first sight =) that night we went for a good old kebab and sat all night drinking on the balcony.
Not only did Stu offer us to stay he also sorted us our an absolute treat as he is the manager for in Sydney for Aussie farmers so On Wednesday off we went to see about the job. We were a it sceptical at first it was door to door, basically the last thing either of us wanted to do. However when we got there eve just the office looked fun, pig pong table, drunken photos all over the wall, xbox and TV. We did a bit of a training session with Calvert and that was it the job was ours. Basically Aussie Farmers is a home delivery of 100% australian products, all the fruit and veg is picked 48 before its delivered and loads of other rubbish. Because of this it made it different to normal sales as all we did was visit existing customers.
So the first day at work we were in for 11sm and handed our gorgoue bright blue t s***s with milkman on the back! ww we looked good. The morning was always the bext bit as everyone is backpacking so were all aound the same age and all got on really well. We are in teams and go out in our mini buses to certain areas were we basically ask customers about 4 questions, dd a load of rubbish on their shopping list and thats it.
The mini bus drives were crazy music blaring, each day we would have some sort of competition for who ever had the least sales. This ended up people skinny dipping in the rain in Manly, a hell of a lot of McDondads 30c Ice cream fights which we just so funny.
One day we did a bingo item were we all picked some bizzare thing f the list and had to upsell them to a customer, I had rissoles (apparently just meatballs) it was so funny no one could up sell their items however I managed to upsell everyone elses as well as mine. Great result as I got to smash the ice cream in James face.
The best days on the bus were when we were far out of the city as Carl (our bus manager) would alway buy a crate of beer and a box of gone for the bus trip back.
So what ese did we do..... Over the first 2 weeks we were pretty lazy and chillled out most days/nights at the apartment. Weekends we would make some yummy food, have drinks, play games and chill out and watch films all day. It was so nice, James and Stu would go off fishing wilst me and Kate played dress up, doing nails, hair, waxing an just generally being girls.
Finally it was time to move on, Kates mum was coming from England so we had to very sadly say good bye to our little room and head to our gorgeous little house.
It was the first house we had even seen. Origionally we ha both desperatly wanted to live in Bondi but as soon as w saw the house we were sold. Its in a place called Annandale and its a big 6 bed town house. We live with an Irish couple, Jenny and Adrian, a couple origionally from UK but now live in NZ, Lilly and Mat, a spanish couple called Carlos and Lydia, Arthi a girl from Malaysia and Ali who is te house manager as it is her dads house.
We moved in on a monday morning and luckily wasnt feeling too well so had the day off. This was perfect as I set out being a good house wife and unpacked all our bags and did the mammouth task of the food shop. I got a bit carried away though I really couldnt carry all the bags so we had a few smashed eggs by the time I got back. James was soplease when he got home.
To say we live with so many people a first it was like we had the house to our self as most people just stay in their rooms. This has changed though since Lilly and Matt moved in so we have company on a night and forever sit drinking beer.
Well the arrival of Andrea and Gary happend some time in and amongst all this, the time has gone stupidly quickly its hard to remeber what happened when. So Anway.... On the day they arrived we finished work and literally ran over to their hotel. We were both sooooo excited to see them. It was really wierd thought, because of skype and facebook it really didnt seem like 2 minutes since we saw them all those many months ago. It was great though. We all swapped stories of our east coast adventure before heading our to get a chinese in China town. The food was delicous and huge portions to what we were expecting.
Stu had let us have a couple of days off so the first day we headed over to Bondi. Such a shame thought the weather was awful, freezing cold and rainig but it didnt matter. Will deffinatly never all forget out first trip to Bondi. After a cold walk along the beach we went for coffee and cake.
Throughout the week we would go and meet them for tea and then on the saturday we all went to the zoo. Luckily we could get some free tickets from work, we had really wanted to be able to take them out or do something for them but it was so hard with no money so this was the next best thing. We had such a good day and the weather was perfect. The views of the city were amazing from there aswell. James foun his brother and we couldnt drag him away from the gorillas.
Before we knew it a wek had gone and it was time for them to start their mammouth journey back to the UK. We kew it would be a matter of seconds before Andrea was in tears but as soon we we had said goodbye so were we.
So since then we have been working every day. After work on a Friday we all head to the pub for jugs and the dreaded side bar. This has been a terrible inerferance with our trips to the beach as most Saturdays we have been highly hungover so have'nt really done too much.
We hae had a few trips to broadway shopping centre and since we have been getting paid my wardrove is getting slightly full, thank god for Australia post so I can ship somethings home.
What else do I ave to tell.....So last weekend Saturday we headed to Bondi for an hour or so then that evning we wen down to Darling Harbour to the Hardrock Cafe to meet Stu ,Kate, her Mum and Emma and Ash to watch the fireworks. Wow they were amazing, and even more amazing the drinks were pretty cheap too.
This week we have out our xmas tree up and are making plans for our xmas dinner, new year, meeting up with Bianca and even more exciting to arrival of Emma and will.
Tuesday was our last day as Aussie Farmers. James has now got a job in the depot and I am going to be working as a disability support worker for an agency. Finaly we will be able to get some money save for NZ. Before we know it ou Sydney adventure is going to be over.
