Becky Bravo's Adventures
GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!! Yea, well that phrase has not been overused since we got here. (and yes that is sarcasm). But so far, Vietnam has been great. The first day here, I went shopping. And surprisingly did not buy all that much, just some DVDs, a pair of flip flops and a hat. Oh, and we also bought some fabric, went to a tailor, and designed some dressed to be made. Mine should be pretty cool and I get to pick it up on Friday. I figured since I pretty much bought all of India, I should keep it low key here. But, all the rumors about everything being crazy cheap here is correct. Plus, I kind of feel like a millionaire because of the exchange rate. Their currency is called the Vietnamese Dong, and 1 US dollar is equal to about 16,500 Dong. It is a really odd thing to calculate, but most places just except US currency, so its not too bad. Then yesterday, I left on a SAS trip to the Mekong Delta and that was a lot of fun. We took a couple hour bus ride to the Mekong River and got on a boat. We stopped and toured this place where they made candies and such and got a lot of free samples. That was fun. Then we got to see a performance of some traditional music and that was great as well. We stayed at the Saigon Cantho Hotel. That was awesome because the girl who was supposed to be my roommate in the hotel did not show up for the trip so I got a hotel room all to myself. It was great to have some alone time. That night, me and about 8 other people went to a Discotheque, and that was an experience. It was great fun though. We just danced to this super loud techno music and hung out with some local people. They all thought we were pretty amusing. It was really random, but a lot of fun. I hadn't been dancing in forever. Now that brings us to today. (yay! I am all caught up!) we woke up and went to the floating market and that was cool. People just sell stuff from their boats and drive up along side you and try and sell stuff too. I bought a fresh pineapple and it was the best pineapple ever! So I included a picture of me and two other girls from the trip chowing down on our pineapples. It was like .25 cents for a whole pineapple. It was very messy and sticky, but amazing. Then we just visited a little temple and came back to the hotel for lunch and had the longest bus ride ever back to the ship. It was like 5 hours. I thought it would never end. I tried to sleep, but I couldn't really get comfortable enough to sleep very well. So, I will sleep super well tonight because I didn't go to bed til like 3 this morning and had to wake up at 8. well, we were supposed to be up by like 7 for breakfast, but I slept through that. Tomorrow I don't have any set plans, just check out the market again and wander around town. And Friday, me, Ally and Hayley are going to the Cu Chi Tunnels, and back to the tailor to pick up our dresses.
