Hello from La Paz....
We arrived in La Paz after a very long overnight bus ride from Sucre. The difference with this bus was it was lush! The seats were really comfy and went all the way back like a bed and we had loads of room. England needs buses like this! We arrived early in the morning and I was sleeping so soundly, it was a shock when Bex woke me and told me we were there....The city of La Paz spawls over a steep hillside and it was misty and noisy in the early morning. We got cabs to the hotel and Becky was a put on her guard a bit when Heidi our tour leader immediatly locked all the taxi tours! We were told to be very careful in La Paz with our bags and passports. Our hotel was very nice though a pretty central... that is something I will definatly miss from leaving the tour- Becky, Becca and I having a nice hotel room to ourselves.
We spent our time in La Paz wandering and shopping in the market streets... we all went a bit crazy on the first day as there was so many lovely things and they were so cheap! We got presents as well as things for ourselves so not so bad. We all bought Bolivian alpaca jumpers! That evening we went to Olivers Travels an English/Irish bar with the gang (our S. American tour group by the way-17 of us) and met up with Tucan tour group who were there too. There were a few drinks involved and we had to chose Fancy dress costumes for each other which made for an interesting evening!
Had a lie in the next day which was amazing after a lot of early mornings and in the evening went for 'South Americas hottest curry' well we didn't but some people did- we played it safe!
This was our last few days with the group and we were really sad to say goodbye. I wished we could have gone on to Lima with the others but it was time for Becky, Becca and I to go it alone. On the last day in la Paz Becca took part in the 'Worls's Steepest Downhill Bike Ride' Crazy girl! Needless to say she did and survived! I'd like to say that the money was my only reason for not doing this but i'd be lying. I think Bex would have done good though.
That evening we dragged an exhausted Becca to dinner with the gang to say goodbye. I was very sad about this but we hope to cross over with them in the next week or so and meet up. Definatly meeting team Euro in Cusco so not a final goodbye. Off bright and early in the morning to Puno
Lake Titicaca here we come....
Lots of love to all
Kate and Becky xxxxx
