We eventually left Koh Tao (after numerous attempts) and headed to the neighbouring island of Koh Phangan. We had two great weeks in Koh Tao and could have easily stayed longer but we decided that we should see more of Thailand than just Koh tao and Bangkok! We caught the ferry from Koh tao to Thongsalat which is in the south of Koh Phangan, from here we caught a taxi straight to the north of the island to a beach that had been recommended to us called Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi. We stayed here for 4 nights, the beach was really beautiful and quiet and the weather was stunning so we spent our time catching up on our sleep and topping up our tans! We also treated ourselves to a Thai massage. After three days we kind of got bored of doing nothing so headed back south to Had Rin. Had Rin is a real backpacker centre, maybe a bit too developed but nonetheless a fun place to be. Unfortunately the weather turned slightly British (grey and drizzley) so we didn't make it to the beach, instead we sat in the many bars watching films - we think our longest stint was about 7hrs in one bar! On the Saturday we enrolled in a Thai Cooking Class at a popular backpackers place. We were able to choose 4 dishes which we were then able to make so we chose to cook Thai spring rolls, chicken satay with peanut sauce, Thai green curry and a prawn and chilli stir fry. It was quite professional and very different to our Indian cooking experience - we each had all our own ingredients and a cooking station and ended up with lots of food to take away (10 spring rolls each!) - yum yum!!
The next day we met up with Matt and Chris who we met in India and then bumped into again in Koh Tao. After a few beers and a couple of games of pool we headed to the beach to Cactus Bar where pretty much every night is party night. Matt and Charlotte entered a balloon bursting competition where Charlotte failed miserably and Matt representing the UK massive made it to the end only to get beaten by a Norwegian girl! It was a really good night, dancing the night away until 4am which was much needed after almost a week's detox! Check out the pics! This year is the 20th anniversary of the famous Full Moon Party so there were 4 days of partying planned. Unfortunately our visas ran out the day before and as it wasn't really worth extending them we headed south to Malaysia. Since then we have heard that Fat Boy Slim played so we are a little bit gutted that we didn't hang around but nevermind. We left Koh Phangan on the Monday for Surathani to catch the overnight train to the Malaysian border. We fly out of Kuala Lumpar on the 16th of July so we will update you all then on our latest adventures.
We hope you are all well and enjoying the summer months (although we have heard the weather has not been too good!) Missing you all, lots of love us xxxxxx
