A 6am start as we made our last journey in Thailand to Phuket International airport. Despite the worry about time, we made it to the airpirt with plenty of time, only to find out flight had been delayed by 2 hours! But they did give us a free sandwich and drink so cant complain, then it was just a case of sitting and waiting as there was absolutely nothing to do in the airport except sit! In the end the flight wasn't too bad, Simon fell asleep and I read up on what to do in Singapor as we only have one evening and one full day before we head to Oz.
we arrived in Sinagpore's Changi airport early afternoon and jumped into a taxi to our new hostel for the next 2 nights, Fernloft. Already, it was obvious Singapore was very clean and the people very friendly, our hostel was spotless and the bathroom sooo nice! we even had a power shower! We're staying on our first dorm here as it is a lot more expensive than Thailand. They seem ok though, we're both in top bunks and theres lockers in the room so very safe. After a very very nice shower we made our plans for the evening. We had a McDonalds diner and then got on 2 buses to get us to the nigth safari zoo! The journey was very long, and hour according to the lady at teh hostel but it took us 2 and a half - not good after we've been up at 6 but we got there in the end!
Our first stop at the zoo was a tram ride! We got to see so many animals but unfortunately no flash photos so we didnt get any pictures. Some of the animals we saw where rhinos, giraffes, tapirs, lions, hyenas and some huge elphants! The enclsures were really big and no fences on most of the enclosures so it was a bit scary!
After the tram ride we just ahd time to do one of the walking trails before the creature of the night show. It was really good but onlt 30mins long. we got to see an otter whos trick was that he knew how to recycle, two racoons, a huge boa, wolves, hyenas and 2 very cute sloths! The show finished at 10pm and we had to make our way back to the bus stop for our very long journey home.
Our one full day in Singapore was spent in the city. Wegot up early to make the most of the day but we were both really tired. we had antoher lovely shower and then jumped on a bus to Suntec City to start our sight seeing. We decided that as we only had one day to see everything we would get a ticket on one of those hop on hop off buses like they have in London. It worked perfectly as we had transport for the entire day and it took us to everything worth seeing. So we hopped on our 'hippo' bus and went to our first stop - Little India. As we walked around it really was like we'd stepped into India. After a little browse in the shops and and a temple with one of the longest names we've seen, we went to teh mustafa center, a 24hour 5 storey shopping center! we were on the lookout for a few things but after the cheapness of Thailand, everythign seemed so expensive. We got back on out hippo bus, this time staying on for a lttle while as it took us around and we saw lots of the city's sites, including Raffles Hotel. We would have loved to go in but somehow whorts and flip flops didnt quite seem appropriate! We got off the bus at the Sinagpore Flyer, just liek the London Eye but bigger. We were walked round teh base of it when we realised we'd walked through an opening in a fence and right on to the Formula 1 track!! a guy walked past saying we were really meant to be there but he didnt seem to mind too much so we got a few pictures and then went on a hunt to find some more of the track adn the race isnt till september and it's not complete yet. We managed to egt round the back of the pits but that was as far as we could get. We were still able to follow the track on the streets though as the ligths had started being put up, Simon was so excited! We followed it across the bridge before leaving it behind to see Singapore's Merlion, the symbol of their country. After a few pictures we got nack on our bus and followed a different route, taking us around the west side of the city. The only stop we made on this route was to have a little look around the Botanic Gardens. The final bit of the route took us through Orchard street, Singapores equivalent to Oxford Street. There was so many designer shops and shopping centers! lack of money amking us very jealous we decdied not to stop and just head back to Suntec to catch our bus home. We were shattered by the time we got back so after another McDs we headed back to the hostel to find we had 2 new room mates from Edinborough. They were so lovely and we ended up staying in and talking about all our adventues for the entire night untill it was finally time for sleep!
Our alst day in Singapore was a bit of a disaster. After packing and double checkign our flights, we attempted to find the beach, supposedly only 10mins from our hostel. An hour later we discovered we'd been walking in the completely wrong direction! by this point we were hot, sweaty and knackered to we gave up and went back to the hostel for a nice shower and a sleep before our journey to Oz began. By early evening it was time to head to the airport!
