Ok, so i'm getting a bit lazy when it comes to blog updates, but seriously, its only these last two weeks i've done anything remotely exciting tbh!
I'll start from what I can remember...
So my hair was long and irritating to straighten on a morning (I've been cursed with wavy hair) and I've always wanted to try out a short style, so I thought about it...and I told myself "Girl, you're in NZ...there'll be no-one around to laugh at you if it looks crap"...so I got it all cut off-and it looked crap! Never did I think I'd miss my long hair-turns out I do!
But, as everyone keeps reminding me...by the time I'm back home it'll be long again :)
The next week, I was sitting in the staff room waiting for breifing whilst talking to Rose (PE Teacher) and she asked me my plans for the weekend, I told her I wasn't doing much so she invited me over hers to stay which was really nice of her :) we ended up going to a water park-"Splash Planet" in Hastings which was fun and the weather got up to 31 degrees! Hot Hot Hot....for the End of November anyway!
The next night she invited a friend to join us for dinner who lived in Napier...I seem to remember the sentence "I dont want to send you back to the hostel drunk" whilst having my wine glass refilled...but somehow I ended up avoiding the matrons that night!!!
Another weekend was spent Tramping through the Kawekas in Hawke's Bay...I'll be the first to admit that the countryside just isnt my type of living....where as most of the girls from the hostel have never seen a traffic jam in their life...but again, I thought about being in a new place, try new things and gain new experiences.
But I definately needed so help bigtime! I showed Kristen and Bethan (two 4th formers going) My idea of a backpack and trainers, only to have them laugh in my face...Luckily one of the staff who wasn't going lent me most of his equipment so I was saved... and Kristen was kind enough to lend me her trainers : )
So I was off! And the first hour or so I couln't understand why so many of the girls had told me I was an idiot to want to go tramping....we were doing some nice downhill movement towards the river but then we had to cross and get to the top...which i would say was a good two hours of uphill (and the way was going made it three) Which made me completely reconsider my idea that tramping would be 'fun' However I made it and did get to see the fantastic views so there is a plus side...Next up was camping in the bush...luckily Mikela and Kristen were there to give me a hand setting up the tents and food as well as mock the lack of knowledge I had when it came to any of this!
The next day was another 3 hour walk back down which would of been ok if it wasn't absolutely pissing down! (sorry for the language)
I finally cracked when we had to climb a muddy, slippyhill with no track knowing that of we fell we'd fall off the mountain as we were right in the edge...cue panic attack and Sammy and Bethan being very protective and extra helpful the rest of the way!
Finally making it out of the Bush was a fantastic feeling and now I can say I have been to New Zealand, climbed a mountain AND camped in the outback!
However, the highlight of my month has been meeting some fantasic friends and being made to feel so welcome-the year 13's had decided that for their last week together they would have a five day beach crawl (Pupil's in NZ start in Jan and Finish in Dec) and they kindly invited me to join them which the school were more than happy to let me have a few days off for!
The weather, although crap could not deterr us and the first night ended up being drinks, an isloated beach, only females...and streaking! Hahaa I gotta live up the "rager" (Party Animal) name for us Poms!
We woke up to find it was STILL raining so off we went to Siv's house and watched a DVD...the weather was still cold but it was no longer raining so I agreed to go with Sam and Lyndsey and learn how to Kayak-not as hard as I thought!!!
The next day we travelled up Kareaka beach where Gabba had a beachhouse...Again, the weather wasn't the best but we resorted to a game of A's&&P's Our new cardgame obsession, before hitting the ice-cold ocean with our boogie-boards!!!
Gotta sayy...never done it before but it was sooo fun!
Another night of drunken shennanigans was had and lets just say whatever happened that night stays on the beach crawll!!!
Lyndsey managed to find a waterfall the next day so we all followed her lead and went for a dip underneath it in a private little cove!!!Just beautiful!!
After that we headed off back to Napier Girl's High School in the B-E-A-utiful weather (typical!) to spend the last week of term eating chicken for christmas dinner (wtf?!?!?!)
Prize Giving, Gift Service and A cocktail partyy ;)....
ROLL ON THE HOLIDAYS!!!
