Jan 2nd to 3rd
Well I met the tour group in Bangkok; there are seven of us - I was a little disappointed to be the only solo traveller but the good thing is that I get my own room all the time as there is an odd number in my group! We have an American couple Devon and Craig; probably about 50 yrs old, two Oz lads Brendan and Daniel; 19 and 20 yrs old and two Oz girls; Michelle and Kerri 29 and 30 yrs old. I've got used to everyone now but the two girls were a bit irritating to start with - by the way all English have bad teeth, they know this for a fact because they lived in England for 2 years and also Wales has it's own currency they don't use the pound - they also know this for a fact!
First we headed to Kanchanaburi on a 2 hr bus trip which wasn't too bad as it was a nice bus and checked into a very dodgy guesthouse which was set over the river Kwai - literally - the whole place rocked when a boat went past! We went on a long boat trip to see some caves where they have some Buddhas and then we went to see the bridge. I walked over it which was a bit of a novelty as there are absolutely no safety rails and massive gaps for you to fall down. The thai people also seem determined to make you move for them so you are balancing on the edge. Then a train comes and to get out of the way you have to get onto the tiny platforms along the bridge and wait for it to go past - another issue with the Thai people making room for us to squeeze on to the tiny platforms!
Went out for a nice dinner that night and organised with the group to go to the waterfalls the following day. Our leader Jack booked the trip which we needed to share the costs for. Next morning we get up and the American couple have decided they don't want to go and drop out. Next the two Oz girls say they can't really be arsed either, by now Jack is getting pretty pissed off whilst tring his best to smile and tell them it was already booked. Long and short of it was me and the lads went and had to share the cost between the three of us, costing us well over double the original cost (what nice people!). We had a brilliant day though and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. There were seven levels of waterfall and we walked up to them all, going for a little paddle on level 7. It was pretty warm! We saw monkeys on the way down, they come really close as they are looking for food, I was very impressed!
That afternoon we got back and went canoeing on the river kwai, just me and the lads again - thank god they were there aye!
Early start the next day to head to the next destination.
