Before I start on Australia, i have to mention the burgers we had in queenstown NZ for my own benefit (i am going to print this off for myself when im home). I realised id forgotten to mention the furgburgers and julie was so shocked i could have failed to tell u all that we have found the best burger in the world. after julie's first furgburger she said she wanted to only eat furgburgers for the rest of her life. we bought 3 on ourlast night to take with us and eat cold, they were still amazing. everyone should go to newzealand for the furgburger alone!
ok now thats done, Australia! flew out of christchurch where a group of japanese tourists asked to have their picture taken with me! v strange, but felt more like a tourist attraction than a celebrity! arrived in sydney and saw the sydney harbour bridge and all the other key sights as we were landing, then again in the dark when we flew out again a few hours later up to Cairns where we met George; and then there were 3!
We stayed just one day in cairns and werent that impressed, not much there but the barrier reef and we didnt go out to see it there. george and julie were also upset as it was cloudy.
we then took our first (of what is to be many!) greyhound bus down to get a ferry across to magnetic island. our hostle was right on the beach and happened to be hosting a huge party called the fullmoon party with guest DJ's from the UK. about 1000 people came they said and it went til 6 or 7am but we were very lame and went to sleep about 1. we were going to stay another day on magnetic island to enjoy the beautiful beach and hammocks at our hostel but we woke up to rain! julie and george were very unhappy by this point! so another bus down to airlie beach where it was still cloudy! at this point i was starting to think george may erupt with anger! but the next morning it was hot and sunny and we boarded our sailing boat at about 4 pm (george and julie about 10 shades darker than when they had woken up and a lot happier, me the exact same colour) in time to watched a beautiful sunset. we were on this boat for 3 days in total and over all it was amazing (final day we all felt a bit sea sick, me the most but still no actual sick, yey!). George and julie tried scuba diving, julie a little more successfully than george who just floated at the top because she was missing some weights. I ofcourse stayed out of the water, u cant trust those fish(!), but the water was so clear that i managed to see loads of fish from the boat and saw one small shark and also a fin which i wasnt sure if belonged to a dolphin or shark. we also saw some amazing white beaches and islands. there wasnt a lot of tanning time as once the sails were up most of our energy was in trying to not slide off the damn boat, but george and julie still managed to get really dark, im still the same colour! we got off the boat yesterday afternoon desperately in need of a shower (2 min a day cold boat showers didnt get us very clean!) and then spent the night on a 13 hour greyhound bus to hervey bay where tomorrow we will be getting another boat (!!) (havent stopped swaying from the first one yet!) to fraser island, the largest sand island in the world apparently. will tell you all what it is like next time!...
