franz jospeh glacier day we arrived at the check in and collected all our gear and donned it. after a quick bus ride we arrived at the bottom of the glacier. we walked for approx 2km til we actually hit any ice. eventually we climbed the first ice steps on the glacier which was quite daunting at first as they were steep but our guide Lucas (one of the girls called him Sky Lukewaker ?!? lol)put us at ease. as we were hitting blue ice we had to put on our tallonz that are spikes to put on our shoes. we tramped up the glacier taking in all the views before stopping for a short break. God muct have liked us today as the forcasted rain never arrived and the sun shone through the cloud! even though the rest of the island was tipping it down!!!! for our first daring climb we made our way through a tunnel and onto the glacier. half way up you had to almoast do the splits before swingin yourself onto a very narrow ledge doing some gymnastics and them climbing out. in the middle of all this bekis tallonz came off! she had to be dragged out by skywalker. much musement to everyone over the day we crawled through tunnels, squezed through gaps that even nicole richie would have trouble getting through and jumped over 30m crevases! we had a yummy lunch ( well needed) then made our way back down through blue ice and more skinny squeeses. after dismounting the glacier we walked back to the carpark and back to the hostel. we had a well deserved pizza yumyum and a game of killer pool at the bar in which 8 or so peeps from our bus took part. steve got to the last 6 or 7 but another steve from our bus won and bought us all a drink which was 'sweet as'
