Aware we had 'one day to do Rome' we organised the mother of all tours - the Spanish steps, the Vatican, palazzo Nuova and our favourite; the Trevi fountain. All on foot.
After trekking all the way to the Vatican we debated whether to face the queue to climb to the top and following a good 20 minute we took the plunge. There was next to no queue really - maybe 20 minutes? Beanie swore going up the Vatican was truly worth it and we changed into fetching and appropriate outfits, 320 stairs later we made it up the narrow claustrophobic steps to the most spectacular view of the city. Thank The Lord the girls agreed that it was a good recommendation!!
Rome is a monster and we did try fit in to the pantheon, but with the night before and the night ahead and an appalling map, we missed just this one and went back to the hostel to relax. The day was finished off with a walking night tour covering 6 piazzas led by a lovely tour guide called Julia who entertained us particularly with her description of the vagina fountain and the Italian men who take their picking of exchange students on the Spanish Steps. We found three Canadian girls in Reception who were also doing the tour so we took photos for each other and later it was good to have a bunch of girls to dance with. At 4.30am Julie needed a Big Mac so off we all went to the station.
