Retired & Traveling
If you didn't know already that today was Mother's Day here in Madrid, it would quickly become apparent by all the flower stands and crowded cafes with several generations honoring the special women in their lives. Everywhere we looked, we saw lots of people walking with elderly ladies all dressed up in their Sunday best. We decided to try a ride on the cable car here known as El Teleferico. According to their website, they opened at 11:00, but when we arrived at 11:50, they were still closed. You gotta love the Spanish way of life--which is wait patiently and don't get your panties in a twist. :) I think we waited around 30 minutes total to get in a car, so not too bad. We got one all to ourselves, and several signs had indicated that we were to let the operator of the car know what language we wanted to hear. We both thought we'd have an audio guide pointing out what some of the sights were--NOT. We got to listen to the same two Phil Collins songs Over And Over and Over. We just had to laugh about it, cause what else are you going to do at that point? Since the ride lasted about 30 minutes, we got to hear those same two songs numerous times. Still shaking my head over that one!! From the cable car, we had a pretty good view of some of the city. We were right over an enormous park, which is right in the middle of Madrid. I must say that they devote a lot of space to green areas, with lots of trees. After our ride, we found a cafe and shared a pizza while enjoying the weather and people watching. Another beautiful day in Madrid!
