Retired & Traveling
Our taxi driver arrived right at 4:30 am for a ride to the airport. We are flying Ryanair again--which means long lines to check our bag, then another line for a Visa check, then security. Thankfully the plane wasn't crowded and we were able to have a seat in between us for the 1 1/2 hour flight. We arrived into Marseille and it was very windy, with some drizzle. Our first not-perfect weather day since we arrived in Madrid. After getting through passport control, we found the ticket office for the shuttle bus that would take us to the train station, where we could catch the subway to the apartment. A taxi would've been about 80€ and this was only about 24€ for us both, so definitely worth the hassle. We found the apartment building and rang the buzzer of a neighbor as we had been instructed. He met us at the elevator on the third floor and escorted us up to the 10th. What fun as he explained about the apartment in French!! It's a small place, with no storage for our stuff, as the owner's things are here, but we've managed to unpack and squirrel things away. We found a Chinese place around the corner and had a delicious lunch. The menu was all in French but I was determined to have a hot meal that wasn't pizza or a sandwich. We stopped off at a grocery store after eating and stocked up on our basics--wine for me and Diet Coke for Rich. :)) Since it's dreary and we are tired, I think it's about all we will do today.
