We made it to Makarska, in spite of having to cross the border not once, not twice but three stinking times!! Turns out that going from Montenegro to Croatia, you cross the border once, then a tiny bit of land on the coast belongs to Bosnia Herzegovina, so you have to leave Croatia and enter Bosnia, then repeat in about 10'miles. So frustrating!! And time consuming!! The entire trip was only 216 miles but it took us 7 hours. We did have to take a ferry across a small inlet and we also stopped for lunch, but still. The last part of the trip went really fast because we got on a nice highway where the speed limit was 81 mph! Nice! Of course, there were tolls to pay, another delay.
The apartment is very nice, two air conditioner units and the host had turned them on for us--it was the warmest it's been so far--91! However, the sun is beginning to set and we are sitting on our balcony enjoying the view.
Kathi--in response to your message about the cost of our meals...the dinner on the beach in Bar was our most expensive yet--$50, but considering what we had, it was still a bargain. :)) And in comparison to what that would have cost for the same thing back in Houston--we probably would have had a $150 bill.
