Retired & Traveling
I finally made it to the gym this morning...it's very small with only 2 treadmills & a stationary bike but since I was the only one in there, I guess it was okay. :)) I worked up a nice sweat and by the time I got back to our room, Kateva was awake. We were supposed to be on the 8:30 bus tour this morning, so she hustled me down to breakfast. I was guessing that the boat was going to be late docking since the water level is so high and we were still moving at a pretty good clip..they had announced last night that this was a possibility. And as I write, we are still moving although I think we're getting close. The buffet they have for breakfast is amazing...but of course, no fresh smoked salmon so Kateva made a request our first day and they brought her a HUGE plate of it this morning. She shared with me and it was quite yummy. Now I'm stuffed again...so much for my workout this morning! Our bus tour this morning was very uninteresting. We are in Saint Francisville and it's a typical small town -- lots of pretty homes with beautiful wraparound porches, a few antique stores but not too much to get excited about. Kateva didn't want to get off the bus, so we stayed on and the entire trip took us 30 minutes. Whoo hoo! LOL I got her settled with a morning paper and went to go play a trivia game with other passengers. It was general knowledge and although I did VERY poorly, I was still the winner! My prize was a wine opener. Oh yeah!! We were going to try a new place for lunch on the boat, but after seeing what they were offering, we opted for the main dining room again. Shrimp with grits, salmon Wellington, and tuna salad with some fresh sautéed veggies made it onto my plate followed by cherry cobbler w ice cream. I did use a small salad plate this time so my portions were very small and that seemed to do the trick. Oh and I also had a small cup of gumbo. I'm going to have a hard time going back to mundane salads after all this good food! Rich just sent me a text that the front has passed thru Houston and it's cold there now. It's in the upper 70's/low 80's here and very pleasant but I know that's going to change shortly. I came prepared though so it should be fine. I'm just a little concerned with our exterior room entrance. After lunch we listened to a lecture by a river lorian who was very interesting. He was an excellent speaker and told tales of how the rivers are all interconnected and men would build flatboats, float them downstream and once they'd reached their destination of Natchez, they would tear the boats apart, sell what they could and begin the walk back to where they'd come from, sometimes hundreds of miles away!! There were also pirates to deal with as well as lots of diseases so it was a very dangerous business. We enjoyed some free time after the speech and met some very nice people from St. Louis. The Go Next group was hosting a cocktail party for us, and I had several glasses of wine--I was on an empty stomach, so was a little wobbly getting to our table for dinner. Our usual tablemates were absent, so conversation lagged just a bit. Kateva had the prime rib and I opted for a catfish entree, but the best thing was this crab-avocado salad...the best thing I've had so far! After a couple more glasses of wine, I was ready to keep the party going....but Kateva wanted to head upstairs, so we parted ways. I went to our onboard theater and enjoyed some live music from the 50's, 60's & 70's. One of our tablemates was seated with me, William...he of the handlebar mustache fame. He invited me to join him & his mother in the Engine Room Bar for some live entertainment, so away we went. After 2 beers, I was about done in...so bid them adieu and headed to our room. By this time, the front had arrived and it was pouring rain. Our room faces outside as I've mentioned before, so I got a little damp trying to get inside. Kateva was still awake to my surprise!! She had been watching tv. I read for a few minutes and then called it a night.
