Retired & Traveling
After a good nights sleep on our comfy beds, we were up in time for room service coffee and juice...I love room service! We got ready for the day and headed down to breakfast--another fabulous buffet. I was going to work out this morning, but oh well! I'd rather eat! LOL We headed out to tour the Oak Alley Plantation, which turned out to be a walking tour. I didn't think Kateva could walk that far, so we got a wheelchair for her to use. We had to cross over a levee and walk down an absolutely beautiful sidewalk thru 300+ Year old oak trees, 28 of them. Our docent was extremely knowledgeable and told us the history of the house. The trees were actually planted well before the house was built, and no one knows why. I learned some interesting facts from our docent--one was the size of the silverware used by the wealthy...the more wealth a person had, the larger their table ware would be. They also would turn it upside down so that their family crest would show. Another thing I learned was that the homes in the New Orleans area would have a large fan over the dining table. I did take a picture of this--it was to help keep them cool and also to shoo the flies away. After the tour, we came back to the boat and Kateva read the paper while I toodled around the boat. The Captain had a champagne reception for all passengers and then it was time for dinner. I've eaten more in the past two days than I have in the last couple months, or so it seems. We went to the theater where there was a musical act of Memphis related songs--typical show boat fare but entertaining none the less. Kateva is ready for bed, and it's only 7:30. Thank goodness for our balcony. :)) there's a full moon shining on the water--gorgeous!
