Retired & Traveling
After a buffet breakfast, we went back to the 15th deck lounge we had been at yesterday to enjoy our cruising thru the Tracy Arm Fjord. The views were just breathtaking--so weird to see ice floating everywhere.
We docked in Juneau at 2:00 and met up with our tour group shortly thereafter. On the agenda for today--zip lining! Neither of us had ever done it, so we were a little nervous. It was an absolutely PERFECT weather day and we had a ball! We zipped from tree to tree 5 times and the last time, we got a little braver and let go of the handlebars, which don't really serve any purpose anyway (other than to give you a sense of control, according to our guide). I ended up spinning around so that I landed backwards--which was sort of scary but also thrilling. :))
Our tour also included a trip to the Mendenhall Glacier. Our guide dropped us off and gave us 45 minutes to look around and meet back for the trip back to the ship. Ashley and I took off on a two mile hike to see some famous waterfall which was right next to the glacier. We made it with 5 minutes to spare! Only one other person, Bryan, did the hike with us out of our entire tour group. Bryan was impressed that I was able to make it. LOL The glacier wasn't all that impressive to me, it basically looks like a frozen waterfall that's all dirty. It would probably be better viewed from the air. The waterfall, however, was awesome--VERY loud and you could walk right up next to it. We didn't because we didn't want to get wet from the spray. We were both glad we made the effort to go see it.
By the time we got back on the ship, we were starving--we headed immediately for the dining room and made it to our room in time to see the sun set--first time we've been up late enough to see it go down! Although in our defense, it sets about 10:30 - 11:00....so weird!!
