We did, indeed, make it into Monticello today. Thomas Jefferson designed the house and built it on the very top of a hill, taking advantage of the magnificent 360-degree view.
We had lunch in their café, went through the museum, and browsed the gift shop.
After leaving Monticello, we headed for the University of Virginia to see it. We found a town, a lot of brick buildings, and what we thought was the Administration building turned out to be a hospital. We got lost and ended up driving a figure eight somewhere near the campus, and on the second time around, we finally saw the Administration building, hiding beneath the scaffolding that has been erected for its renewal.
We're moving out tomorrow morning and heading to Mount Airy, North Carolina. Mount Airy is where Andy Griffith grew up and is purported to be what Mayberry was patterned after.
We’re both feeling pretty good. We’ll see how the plan works out.

Rich You didn't have much to say about Monticello. Did you take any pictures from inside? If I remember from the book Barbara and I read (not impressed) the desk Thomas used to write the draft of the Decleration of Independance is there. Perhaps some president moved it to the Oval Office for his own enjoyment. I also noticed that the dome depicted on the nickle is not the same as the one in your picture. Could be that it was renovated.
