Okay, so it's kinda cutsey, but she IS our first grandchild. (For those of you who don’t know, Shannon’s daughter, Madison Grace Carey, made us grandparents, and where the #$% have you been?) So this entry has nothing to do with Maddie, but I just wanted to give a shout-out to my granddaughter, "HI, MADDIE!" (and it’s MY blog, so there).
Last night, in Middlebury, it was hot and muggy. When we went to bed, we opened the two windows and the roof vent in the bedroom, in an effort to get some cool air, and promptly fell asleep.
I had a dream (no, not like MLK; I only wish I could be like he was). My dream had me in a barn-like building with a lot of people partying. In my dream, it started to rain, and the barn leaked like a sieve. People started running for cover. I found myself holding a baby, about eight or nine months old (Maddie is nine months old), and I walked with her over to a spot where the sunshine was pouring in through the holes in the roof. We could see the rain glistening in the sunbeams. I said, “Look, you can touch the rain in the sunbeam,” and Maddie and I reached out and touched the rain drops falling through the holes in the roof and glistening in the sunbeams.
Then I woke up and realized it was actually raining and coming in through the open roof vent above our heads and falling on my face. It was 6:00 am. Whoever is in charge, thanks a lot.
So, okay, what happened today? Driving—traffic—rain. Make up your own story. I'm going to finish my wine.
