Comments:
Today was sooooo much fun. We were on I-80, passing some slow-moving something-or-other, when we heard a sound like something fell out of an overhead cabinet and crashed to the floor. Looking back, we didn’t see anything, but I figured I should check it out. I pulled off the freeway and headed south on a two-lane Iowa road, looking for a place to pull out and then turn around. I finally found a gravel road that went to infinity on the right and to infinity on the left. I pulled off and parked, and we began looking for the source of that sound.
We stopped on Troublesome Creek Road. This is called fore-shadowing.
Barbara found it first. The inner rear tire on the driver’s side had blown out; a great, gaping tear frowned at us from behind the outer tire. In all, I had probably driven five or six miles before being able to stop, and I didn’t even notice that I had lost a tire. The RV handled fine; I never lost any control (except for my 30-second hysteria at seeing the blown-out tire and realizing what could have happened).
So now we’re in a KOA outside of Des Moines, planning on getting up at 6:00 in the morning to be in Des Moines to have six tires put on the RV. We decided we aren’t taking any chances: we want good tires on the rig.
I’m trying to figure out if Molli had a hand in this. She’s pretty sneaky….

rietta this one completely gives away the mystery about the author! there is NO WAY barbara is driving that thing
belinda No picture of the blown tire/gaping hole??? Seriously???
Patrick On the bright side: At least you weren't at the intersection of Toublesome Creek Rd and No Paddle Lane
David No trip across the country is complete without a mechanical breakdown. You have to have one, it's in the rule book.
Kim Orloff What a neat place for a birdhouse! By the way, leaving at noon sounds just perfect to us! You are having a REAL vacation!
Earle Loved the comment about the location where the tire trouble happened. Too funny! Glad it wasn't a major issue though I'm certain getting 6 tires won't be cheap. But glad you'll have good rubber all around.......lolSee ya soon!
Rich Good thing a second tire didn’t blow and strand you on the road to nowhere. One has to be careful pulling off the highway onto a side road. Years ago we had motor trouble while crossing N. Dakota on the interstate. With the car sputtering and coughing saw a sign to a town and pulled off. Drove several miles to the town which consisted of three buildings: a bar, a mercantile, and praise God, a gas station with a garage, all closed on Sunday. Went into the garage and found a mechanic, who despite his day off took time to fix our car. Was someone looking out for us or what?
