So the day after we got back from Amsterdam it was time to head off again. To Madrid Spain!
Again, we woke at about 5:00 AM which was Insanely cold in London and got a Taxi to the airport and headed to spain!
We got to our "sercret Hotel" and were very pleasantly suprised!
If you don't know what a Secret Hotel is, it is a website online where very high end hotels advirtise their hotels for a very low price. The catch is, you are not told what the name or exact place the hotel is until you have already bought the room ( so they don't have to degrade their hotel!)
Its heaps of fun and we ended up with a VERY fancy 5 star hotel in the middle of madrid! It was great! The first day we were VERY tired because of the time we got up, and we didn't get to sleep the night before until 1 am so we had a snooze when we got there. In the afternoon we wandered into the city.
It it is an amazing place, all the buildings were so unique and full of details. Carvings, statues and windows all plated in gold and silver. There where fountains where roundabout should have been and everything was typically spanish.
We were starving because we had not had lunch, so we went to a resturant for dinner. Unlike Amsterdam, not many people here actually spoke english so we had a bit of a problem trying to read the menu, but we were pretty sure of what we wanted to eat, so we asked the waiter who brought back two drinks! It was at this time we realised the spainsh don't really eat. They Just drink.
So it was a little bit bad because we were starving and now rather drunk, trying to find some food. We eventually came accross a place that sold food, and we had patella, a traditonal spanish rice and fish dish which was really nice!
We then when to try another delicacy of Spain. Moijos! Which were VERY good in Spain! We had a great night after that! We went from club to club dancing to spainsh music which is ALOT better when you are intoxicated!
As we were about to go home we met a nice spanish couple and the guy wanted to dance with time while I chatted to the woman. I wasn't really concentrating until I heard Tim start yelling saying " THATS NOT ON MATE" I turned around and saw the guy had tried to pick pocket tim! It was so cool that he got the guy! The couple walked away VERY quickly and tim was pretty proud of himself!
Good Night!
The next day we where both pretty "under the weather" but the tourist guide at our hotel told us to go to these special markets in town so we complied!
We walked for ages past Sol Square, a very lively place with buskers, performers and statues! We watched some great street performers a little bit before finding the markets. They truly were magical! They were food markets and you could tell they were " good quality" markets. they served really small and tasty food, and it seem the 'in' thing to do was to buy something from every place and then eat it as tapas. We weren't hungry but we had some yoghurt from a place where they was a photo of the queen eating from it!
It was very good. We went to the information centre after that and found a big booklet of geocashing there, but weren't up to doing one, sorry mum!
We went to the Palace after that and the palace gardens which were sadly closed. But we got a look at the Palace and and went and sat in another garden to watch a bum wash his clothes in a fountain which was GREAT entertainment.
We wandered back to the city and grabbed some food - Please note, spanish food is pretty gross, as like, I said before, they just drink, they don't eat. We went to some vege place that sold pita bread sadly not traditional but very good!
We walked back to the hotel and got dressed for dinner. We went out to the more 'local' area for dinner which was again im sorry to say, gross. The menu was all in spanish, so we just ordered something that I knew had chicken in it.! It was KFC.
After a very depressing dinner we decided to see a film and managed to find one in english. Not only that, BUT it was a film I had REALLY wanted to see for a long time! GREAT!
It was funny because the spanish say awake really late so the last film started at 130 am! Cool!
We didn't go to the screening though, we went to a 1030 session! Then back to our very comfy bed!
