Today was one of the best days I have had at camp I reckon!
It started out like any normal day, we woke up to an already 30 degree heat headed to breakfast, ( bagels of course, it was Sunday) and went back to the bunk to clean before our first activity. However, about 10 mins before our first activity was scheduled we heard a huge commotion outside. As we ran out to the back porch we were just in time to see the two horseriders, Kerrie and hayley on their horses riding through camp blowing whistles and wearing bushrangers clothes. They were announcing pioneer day.
Everyone was ushered to the basketball court and divided into four teams in colours. Although I wasn't technically on a team I ended up rooting for blue.
The teams were competing in 4 different events that has something to do with pioneers as they are called over here. I had my usual job of filming all the action so I was able to see everything! I watched them at archery, target training at paintball, swimming and an obstacle course.
My fave was watching the kids trying to build a fire from scratch and fry and egg on it!
After a hurried lunch it was the staffs turn to win for the team. We all lined up in the side of the pool and were told the strange rules. We were to catch as many LIVE GOLDFISH AS WE COULD FOR OUR TEAM. I can tell you this, they didn't stay alive for long! Not with 100 odd staff members jumping in the pool trying to grab and rip the fish apart . The game was competitive and I was very proud to say I got two fish - plus screamed like a little girl! I the end te blue team one, most likely all thanks to me!
After drying off and washing the fish smell from our hair, the whole camp headed up onto the Crest for and international vs Americans game of soccer. Boys only, of course. Which I was glad for! Of course it was a little unfair, as it was about 400 to 100 in terms of cheering our teams on, however even though we were on the smaller side we managed to make way more noise and looked the part!
While the Americans sat either sun baking, taking or half asleep, we were dressed head to toe in our countries colours and flags. We had face paint and tattoos, posters and wooden plaques! I felt like an actual serious soccer team fan!
I had lost my voice by halfway through the game and had gained some very interesting tan lines from running up and down the field screaming at the top of my lungs. But it was such a close game. By full time the teams where one all so they went into over time, however this was no good either as after another 10 mins the score was the same.
This was now very serious. They went into a penalty shootout, after 5 kicks each, the score was STILL the same, so they went into one, one shootouts where unfortunately the internationals lost out. It the closest game for 4 years, we were told by the boss, les.
So after an upsetting walk back to the bunk we had dinner and by then I was ready for bed!
