There was a TV show called Savannah a while ago. I don't remember much about the show, but I've wanted to check out Savannah ever since I saw it. I would never have gone to Savannah solely for the purpose of going there because there are too many other places that I want to go first. When I first got into Charleston I saw a sign that said that Savannah was only 100 miles away. I figured it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. And wow, was I ever wrong about Savannah. First of all, it's way bigger than I thought! Second of all, I will be making a trip to Savannah again because I didn't see nearly enough. It's beautiful, educational, adorable and so charmingly southern. Exactly what I thought the south would be like. Since I hadn't planned on going to Savannah I had no idea what to do. Luckily the visitor's center is right off the freeway. I decided to get a trolley tour since they would be able to show me more than I could see on my own (I only had about 2 hours to spend there because I wanted to get back to Charleston to do some sightseeing there too). It was a very good decision. I learned a lot about Savannah.Their historical society does a good job of keeping the historical district in tact. They have very strict regulations about buildings and such. Savannah is divided into numerous districts...the only one's I remember are the waterfront and the historical districts because those were my favorites. They also have at least a dozen squares scattered throughout the city. The squares are beautiful; most have fountains or memorials or statues and are surrounded by trees and flowers. Unfortunately I had to leave after the trolley tour and I didn't get to see the inside of any of the gorgeous mansions. Coming back to Charleston was extremely difficult because I had to take 95 North, but 95 South leads to Florida. It was very hard to force myself onto the north ramp. I've been thinking about a road trip through Florida. Since Savannah is so close it would be added to the itinerary and now I know that I will need at least three days to explore Savannah and see the inside of some of those gorgeous homes. Most of these pictures have stories attached to them but I've already forgotten a lot of them. Next time I go to Savannah I'm going on the hop on hop off narrated trolley and I'm going to take notes. I'm also going to go on a riverboat cruise and explore the mansions, squares, and waterfront. I can't believe how much there was to do and see there! If I wasn't 100% certain that I'd be back to Savannah and Boston (soon), I'd get in the car and drive back to Savannah. I'd spend a few days there and then head back to Boston until I get bored (which may be never). So goodbye for now Savannah. You are absolutely stunning and I promise I will come visit you soon!
