Let me just start by saying that this trip has caused me to lose muscle mass in my arms because I haven't had to open a door since I was in DC! :) In Boston people always opened doors for me (they were very polite there. I've never heard the words please, thanks, and excuse me so much, I loved it!) and here in the south people will run in front of women to open the doors. Makes me feel a little helpless, but it's okay. :) It's a very nice change from having doors slammed or closed in my face, especially when my arms are full of stuff. To be honest I've been a bit disappointed since Boston. To be fair I should have saved Boston for last. I've always wanted to go to Seattle, Chicago, and Boston. Last fall I finally visited Chicago and Seattle. I fell in love with both cities and knew I'd feel the same about Boston. So really, after Boston how could any city stand a chance? But I have to say that I have been very pleasantly surprised by Savannah and Charleston. Especially by Savannah, although Charleston certainly can hold it's own. Before this trip I'd never been to the south and Savannah and Charleston are the epitome of what I think the south should be. I didn't see much of Charleston since I got here after six. After checking into the hotel I immediately drove to the waterfront and the walkway off of Concord St. I was right by a cute and busy street (maybe downtown?) with tons of restaurants. Like Savannah, Charleston has great architecture. It's still insanely humid, but the sun wasn't as strong today, so that helped a little. Plus I was so fascinated by these two cities that I actually didn't even notice the humidity too much. Well I noticed it, it's impossible not to, but I was too busy playing tourist to pay it much attention. I can't believe this trip is almost over and I really can't believe all of the stuff I've seen and done and all the people I've met. Just looking at the map from travelpod I can't believe I drove all of that! I'm not going to add up the miles until I get home on Friday because I still have to drive back to DC tomorrow and am in a bit of denial about how far that really is. I've gotten into such a nice habit of driving and seeing a new city every day. It will be hard to go back to the daily grind of work and school, but this time I'm lucky because I have a cruise planned from Galveston to Cozumel in a month. And in November I'm going to Europe for a few weeks. So I'm really lucky this time because I already have trips to look forward to. If it weren't for Raina, my dog, a.k.a. the love of my life :) then I'd do the whole travel for a year thing. Until then, I'm seeing the world one trip at a time. And I'd say that I saw a lot this time.
