Usually I can see a big city in about 2 or 3 days and then I'm ready to move on. I'm surprised to say that, even though it is my 3rd night in Frisco, I am not yet ready to move on. I really think that I could spend a week here and not get bored. There are even more things I want to do...but I'm out of time for now. And to think that I lived in Fremont for so many years. You can take Bart from Fremont to San Francisco (which I only did once). Good thing I didn't fall in love with San Francisco back in high school...I'd be ditching every week to take Bart here. Anyway, I started out at Fisherman's Wharf. Then I went on a double decker bus tour of the Golden Gate. I figured that would be better than driving cause I'd try to take pictures and probably crash. Never a good thing. Anyway, I can't remember ever going over the Golden Gate. I probably have a long long time ago. I remember going over the Bay Bridge a lot cause that's the way to Fremont. Anyway, drive over the Golden Gate! There are amazing views. And then stop at the Vista Point and see more amazing views. From there I hopped on a cable car (which I have somehow never done!). Here's a pointer for you- if you are trying to take the cable car from Ghiradelli Square, if the line is really long (it was an hour and a half wait!!) then just walk a block up Hyde Street and you'll see a trolley stop. Just wait there for 5-10 minutes and the trolley will come pick you up. I guess it's kinda cheating, but I saved over an hour of time by doing that. The trolley is $5 whereas the buses and above ground trains are $1.50. You need exact change for all public transportation (unless you buy your trolley ticket at the booth). I got off the trolley at Union Square. It's huge...kind of like a huge multi block outdoor shopping mall. From there I walked the 8 or so blocks back to the hostel and now, somehow, the sun has gone down again. I can't believe I'm leaving tomorrow...I've actually gotten very comfortable in San Francisco. The city is very deceptive. On the one hand it's huge...but it's also compact and very easy to get around. If you have a car ditch it as soon as possible! I've been to lots of big cities in the U.S. and for some reason San Francisco is the one I hate to drive in the most. With the buses, BART, cable cars, muni, and above ground trains you can get anywhere you need to go. I have been to San Francisco numerous times, but I feel like these few days in California I have done a lot more than my 22 years living here! I will definitely be back to San Francisco, and next time I will stay longer. Tomorrow it's off to Muir Woods, Napa, and Calistoga, then to Sacramento to stay the night at my friend Laura's house. To get to Napa I need to cross the Golden Gate. Yay, at least I know the drive will be amazing!
