Surfers Paradise.....we surfed, that´s all there is to say. Sharan and i took to the sea for the first time and caught some waves....all be it with a class. Most of them were a group of Welsh holiday makers so Sharan and i got a bit of personal instruction off to the side. I stood up! Ah yeah. So what if the wave wasn´t a foot high.
Warning - our bodies were not used to this activity and we ached for days after....but we were still psyched.
I was a bit disappointed to find the YHA is situated a way away from the happening centre, but it was pleasant enough, cheap and had a McD´s across the road!
Other highlights....the massive beach...again, another massive beautiful beach, hoorah. We took a day out to visit the Wet n Wild water park, awesome. Some mad rides here....did the big surf board one and the quasi-vertical slide...woohoo! Met 2 crazy Australian dudes....one was a farm hand, looked about 15 and was permanently drunk. The other looked about 60, was married to a prostitute, recovering from alcoholism...badly, as he supped a beer, and supporting his terminally ill dad´s mail order bride or in house care as i guess she ended up being. Why do they always talk to me?
Didn´t take part in the nightlife as is tradition here, but had had enough in Byron. Anyhoo, great surrounding wharf, pretty luxury yachts everywhere. Moved on to Brisbane, aka Bris-vegas.
