Out of the frying pan....no that's an unfair analogy. There was stuff to do here, it was all very far away and we couldn't find it? Walked a looong way in to town from the YHA and everything was closed. Had a nice ice cream, though at Blue Balloons.
Checked out the local urban area, they have great views of the mountains...felt a bit seedy in the part we looked, though, so made haste back to the safety of our hostel.
Tried to get to Woolgoolga 20 mins up the road, big Sikh community here....found the buses cost about a tenner or more for a return....and only run twice a day? Forget that, pal!
Followed the creek walking trail, chatted with some local youths who were drinking wine in the shade - moved swiftly on. Botanical gardens...i am now old....were lovely.
Went all the way to Mutton Bird island - dramatic hill and outcrop, great views - got a flyer from a christian guy....they're everywhere!
Tried a Hogs Breath cafe, meat smelt funny, tasted ok...at first i thought it was coming from outside. I complained and the manager comp'd both our meals, even though Sharan's was alright. A little worried since the memory of food poisoning was still 'fresh'. But no worries - free food! And had a beer on them, sweet.
Next stop, Maclean/Yamba/Byron Bay
