Hello from Malaysia....another day, another country...that's my motto (Cue the 'what's a motto' joke from Lion King). Sad to leave Thailand, stories will be blogged and pictures of course....but the travelling must continue.
In order to get here, Sharan and i hopped a night boat on the 6th January from Koh Tao (6hrs) to Saratthani then bussed to Hat Yai (5hrs), then bussed to Satun (2hrs) then ferried in to Malaysia (1hr), the lovely island of Langkawi on the 7th January. Border crossing was so easy with passport control running smoothly. After almost 24 hrs of travelling in the heat and wearing the same clothes, the hot shower i had felt like the best shower in the world.
In contrast, Sharan and i changed hotels today (the 8th Jan) to get a better position to the beach and save money - we are in a hut that opens on to the beach -nice -but... no air con, no tv, no hot water, lots of insects - but a steal for a tenner i suppose ;OP We will move again tomorrow as this shower is more of a dribble and Sharan and i miss water pressure! Oh yes, the toilet cistern needs to be filled manually using a bucket. Oh the joys of budget travelling!
On the plus side, the sun is shining hot, and the food - mostly Indian and Arabic - is delicious. You can get a cold beer here for 40p and we ate for 2 quid a head tonight.
News from England tells of snow, hard to imagine when every 30 minutes we dive in to the sea to cool off ;OP
Finish our stay here in a pink 'house' guest house, which Sharan absolutely loved. tried Nasi Lemak (sp?) for breakfast - rice and fish paste. prefer Frosties, i think!
Off to Georgetown on the ferry....
