Ola,
Last blog from Rio. We're flying to Salavdor tonight for a cheaper and apparently warmer atmosphere. It's been 40 degrees here by the way. Absolutely unforgettable day yesterday at the Maracana...just look at the photos...enough said. We both got really into the game as 122,000 fans packed into the stadium to see Flamengo beat Botafogo 4-2 on penalties. The enthusiasm of the Flamengo fans was infectious - the noise and the colour was truly incredible -Â and we both ended up walking around copacabana chanting Mengo songs and wearing 'campeano' sashes. That will also be the last time the Maracana can hold that many fans as they are reducing the capacity for the Pan American games...so clearly a very special day.
Today has been spent sorting out our flights to Salvador. Victoria has taken on legendary status at the Copahostel for almost killing Louis with booze (he tells everyone that arrives)...if we'd known he was really 63 we would have just given him a cup of tea and a copy of the Radio Times.
Please look at the photos....I really can't describe how incredible it was yesterday.
Up the Mengo!!!!
The blogs might dry up as we head further North, but just because we don't write everyday don't assume we're dead, in prison or holed up in a shack with Louis.
Love to you all...stay happy xxx
