We were recommended to come here by a couple of campers we met on the road and what an amazing place it is. It is so far off the beaten track we would never have been here in a million years.
The town has no tarmaced roads or pavements at all anywhere. The roads are sand and bear just as many hoof prints as tyre tracks and are lined with rows of verandahed buildings that are empty most of the time. The houses are owned by pilgrim revellers who converge on the town once a year on horse back and by gaily coloured wagons pulled by cattle and horses. All the riders are in Andalucian costume both men and women and apparently the festivities last for days. Each weekend a smaller festival takes place which we would have loved to see but we are not here at the right time.
The town is busy with visitors even now with many coaches full of Spanish school children on cultural visits. We have seen a few horses trotting around the streets all groomed to perfection with fancy manes and tails. The tourist shops sell the riders outfits and saddles and boots etc. Even the door knockers on the houses are horse shoes. It just looks like Clint Eastwood should be walking down the street in his poncho...amazing!!!!
The campsite is fairly busy with the majority being Brits so people must have heard about it from somewhere. The campsite has wi.fi and we have just spend yesterday afternoon and evening and today from 9.00 and it is now 5 and we are still working on this web site. At least we are up to date ready for Morocco and it should be easy from now on.
We are trying the BBQ again tonight chicken fatitas..lets up it's not another burnt offering!!
