The drive from Guarda again took us through some lovely scenary, this time a glacial plateau mainland Portugal's highest mountain range. Mountain people still live in the traditional one room stone casais (huts) thatched with straw tending the odd sheep or goat. After a bit of diffuculty we found the camp site at the dam which had been recomended by another motorhomer otherwise we would never have found this place. The campsite was huge with every facilitty imaginable and would be full in summer but there were only 3 motor homes on it.
The next morning we set off early at 9.00 for a lovely walk around the lake taking us up to an old walled village where we went into the only cafe and joined 2 nuns. We looked at the clock and it 12 noon and our watches said 1pm. We pointed to the clock and the lady said the time was correct. We had forgotten that Portugal is on GMT the same as th UK and we had lost an hour which meant we had set off on the walk at 8a.m!!
