Yesterday was so good, we thought we would do it all again today!
We woke to wind, waves and sunshine and repeated our run along the beach and boardwalk, then swam in the sea, out round the buoy. Over breakfast Chris researched and booked bike hire and then we packed up and headed back to Kanaha Bay for a long afternoon of windsurfing.
Now familiar with the kit, the boys flew in and out - planing, gybing and smiling. A lot!
B and K fended off the attentions of the over friendly Fred and provided photographic coverage of the day.
The beach was so beautiful. Bright blue sea and sky, white sand, clear water and colourful sails everywhere!
We walked east along the beach - deserted but too surfy for snorkelling.
Our deadline at Crater Bike Hire was 5.30 so we packed up just as the wind conveniently died down and headed back into Kahului to pick up two mountain bikes with an assortment of other paraphernalia including full face helmets and padding!
Bikes strapped on the back and windsurfers on the roof we trundled home with straps humming in the air flow.
We took afternoon tea (peanut butter on toasted bagels) on the balcony watching the sunset and then swam in the pool and probably broke all the rules on the board about no noise, no splashing, no fun etc.
Back home for a swift transformation into best bibs for our smart evening out at Mama's Fish House - THE place to eat on Maui. Drove out through Pa'ia, still looking like Bandits' Salcombe and on to Haiku to return our windsurf kit to Matt who was as pleasant and charming as before.
Then to Mama's. What a place. Valet parking, then walking down a shallow slope across the beach, past the front of the restaurant to the reception. The palm tree covered beach was in darkness but lit by flaming torches.
Inside we had the perfect table, outdoors but covered, and right next to the beach. The table was decorated with fresh flowers and just perfect. We started with coconut and mint cocktails and beers. Appetisers included red snapper cheek and wasabi tempura shrimp. Star of the show main course was Mama's signature dish of Mahi-Mahi stuffed with lobster and with a macadamia crust. Delectable and a wonderful place for our last evening together.
Home then for an 'early' night in readiness for our sunrise trip to the Haleakala crater tomorrow morning.
