Day 7.
So...tomorrow is race day. Today is another rest day - for Chris at least. Our sporting star slept in till 10am and the rest of us did our bit to help by loafing around on the balcony watching the sea and doing not very much either!
After a FaceTime catch up with Elmgrove, K and M went for a run and a swim and when we returned breakfast was very much ready to go! Bill's breakfasts do get a lot of press in these blogs and rightly so! Superb once again today with fried eggs and crispy bacon, bagels and blueberry jam followed by fresh pineapple and guava fruit salad with Greek yoghurt. Match that!
After breakfast, another planning meeting... Chris had to check in his bike and equipment bags in between 2 and 5pm. A couple of hours to pack and check equipment and bike, and to make one final road test.
M, S and B set off to hire a surf board and try out some of the much talked about a beaches along the Kohala coast 30 miles north of Kona.
C and K concentrated on packing and provisioning. Essential ingredients for the event include the highly technical nutritional elements of Granny's jelly babies and a foil wrapped parcel of PBJs. (For those of you not familiar with sports nutrition that's peanut butter and jam sandwiches!)
All packed up and ready to go, K and C headed down to the beach for a brief refreshing swim in the surf before Chris set off for the bike check in, leaving K stranded on the ocean front balcony with absolutely nothing to do.....
Meanwhile, B, M and S found plenty of surf at 'Pine Trees' at Ala Kohanaike and tested out their bargain hire surfboard ($10 a day from Pacific Vibrations, Kona.)
In their way back they stopped at The supermarket for provisions and were in perfect time to collect Chris and bring him home ready for supper and an early night.
The sun was sinking slowly below the horizon so we decided%2
