7th, 8th & 9th Slovenia
Slovenia is quite an interesting place as you don't really hear much about it and it is not one of the countries you naturally rattle off when you talk about Europe. It is a one of the smaller countries in Europe, about half the size of Switzerland and has only 2 million people. It is famous for its natural beauty and adventure sports. We stayed in the town Kobarid, in the North West of Slovenia. We went on walks that took in the amazing sites of a turquoise river, pre-historic remains & remains from the 4th & 5th centuries, an amazing waterfall (Slop Kozjak), went through Soca Gorge and stumbled our way through many Italian defenses from the First World War. Another day involved a road trip to Bled, a place famous for having the only island in Slovenia. Bled town is at one end of the lake with cliffs surrounding the rest of it and on one of the many cliffs a castle is perched. On the tiny Island in the middle of Lake Bled is the Church of Assumption. We hired a row boat and rowed out to it, once at the church you are able to climb the stairs of the steeple and ring the church bell. Whilst in Slovenia we also did a drive through the Slovenia Alps, an area famous for its pass and picturesque views, unfortunately the day we did it the weather was a little inclement and we unfortunately missed the views.
