After getting mostly busses throughout our travelling trip so far it was great to fly from Mumbai to Udaipur and avoid the 14+ hour bus ride!
Udaipur's old town is a beautiful mix of white buildings around a large lake. Temples, small bazaars, houses and a palace make up the backdrop with most of the restaurants on top of the buildings giving amazing views around the town and lake.
The city (and old town) was made famous from the James Bond film that was shot here, Octop**** The film is screened by a lot of the restaurants of an evening so we pitched up and watched it one night over a curry and some Kingfisher's!
We had four days in town so kept it really chilled out. Lay ins, bit of shopping, food and a few of the sights in between. The palace museum was really interesting, some of the temples were also really cool. The town is famous for it's silver jewellery and leather goods so we went on a little spend up and got a few bits, amazing prices compared to what they would be back home!! The town is also famous for miniature paintings, amazing intricacy and really cheap so we purchased a few of those as well!
It was a nice feeling having no pressing tours or sights to see, re- charging the batteries and making the most of the time here. Air conditioning in the room helped as well!
We would be spending a few weeks in Rajasthan, with camel camping in the desert and tiger safaris coming up so after a short stop here... Onward bound and a short night bus to Jodhpur.
