Jaipur is the capital of the state of Rajasthan and you definitely know it! Over 2.5 million people and the city centre is absolute chaos! The streets are crazy, bazaars are hectic with all sorts on sale and as with all Indian cities, animals are everywhere. In any Indian city or town on a normal street you'll have cows, pigs, dogs, cats, an array of birds and even camels all mixing with the pedestrians and traffic! Only in India....

We booked into a decent hotel, decorated in a detailed Indian style and with really big comfortable rooms. Nearing the end of our trip you realise that a comfortable room is much higher on the agenda, and especially air conditioning when it's 45oC outside! It also turned out that the hotel restaurant was number one on Tripadvisor in the whole city! We would subsequently eat there three nights in a row and sample their tandoori chicken each time!

During the days we booked a full city museum pass which covered a large fort, the wind palace, astrological museum and the Albert Hall museum (although this was shut on the day we wanted to go in!). We hired a rickshaw driver to take us around for the full day at a cost of only about £6/ £7.

The astrological museum was the most interesting. Built in the 1700's it was amazingly accurate in all sorts of space and time measurement. Strange when you see how sophisticated some civilisations were at different times in history and others around the world were much more primitive at the same time. Only based on this trip, Pre- Latin America seemed to take a lot longer to develop modern technical buildings and infrastructure compared to Asia and Europe.

Also whilst in Jaipur we battled the daily booking office within the train station... Absolute chaos trying to book upcoming tickets. Considering how big the railway is as well it seems that tickets book so far in advance! Anyway we got it done (only to realise we needed to change them later!!) and finished off the last night in our favourite restaurant upstairs!

Excited to head to Ranthambhore National Park next and go on some tiger safaris!! Not sure if we'd stay the full 4 days or have one more day in Jaipur but either way, really hoping we spot the Tigers!!
