So... The much anticipated boarder crossing from Ecuador to Colombia, but not for fun reasons! The first day we took an early morning bus back into Quito, a short taxi and then coach to the Colombian boarder. The journey was relatively smooth considering!
After the 'stamp out', 'stamp in', we took another taxi into the Colombian boarder town of Ipiales. Normally boarder towns are tiny and very strange but this was a normal town. A population of over 120,000 and a decent choice of places to stay and mooch around.
One of the highlights is a church constructed in a deep canyon around 7km from town. From both the view point on the hillside and at the church floor level it was amazing! Construction started in various forms hundreds of years ago but it's final form took shape around 100 years ago. The name of the church was Santuario De Las Lajas and its one of the highest visited places for catholic pilgrims aside from Lourdes in France! A great stop over in the boarder town!
The next day was another early start and a 12 hour coach to Cali! We did a bit of research and a decent coach company was found, currently writing this blog on the coach wifi! Although we're also watching the 5th film in two days which is dubbed in Spanish with no English sub titles! More to follow I'm sure!!
