Short stop in São Paulo, gave us a welcomed break on the journey from Paraty to Iguazu Falls and also let us see the biggest city in Brazil, 20 million people!
When we arrived the neighbourhood our hostel was in had a complete black out from the storms, everyone sitting around drinking using candle light when we got there!
The city is absolutely huge, heading up to one of the higher buildings in town and looking around at the views on all sides the city sprawls as far as the eye can see. Unlike Rio though which is built within beautiful mountains and next to the sea, São Paulo is much plainer to the eye. Very much like a 'working city' with most buildings either just serving the purpose of housing or for businesses.
Had an interesting guide around the city, one of our friends is a member of a couch surfing website so he posted an update saying he was in the city and a random local guy offered to take us round. Took us to a few sites, joined us for dinner and out for a drink, nice having local knowledge and language to hand!
Big crowd from the hostel went out for a drink, Caipirinha to start as always...
Debated on staying a few days in the city but decided to move on in the second, keen to keep moving through Brazil and see Iguazu and the Brazilian jungle, second biggest to the Amazon.
First night bus in South America to get there and a 14+ hour ride...
