Alison: We had heard that Pai was a cool place but we weren't prepared for how cool it was! We loved it there. It is quite a small place but it is packed with trendy/hippie bars, restaurants, cafes and boutiques. It has a really laid back feel but at the same time has quite an active night life as well. There are dread-locked, pierced and tattooed Thai locals at every turn which we hadn't really seen before in Thailand. They must all flock to this place! At night, the main street has a colourfully lit market with buskers and really good chilled out live music playing in many places. We saw a policeman dancing and singing next to a busker which you would never see at home. The monks looked like gangsters swaggering down the street with huge tattoos. Even the dogs were dressed better than me! The only down side of the place was that they were still showing the football but it kept Nigel quiet for a while and the wine was cheap so I couldn't complain too much ;-)
Nigel: There is little more I can add to what Alison has said. We were sorry to leave Pai but our livers weren't. We flew down to
Bangkok from Chiang Mai and then took a bus from Bangkok to the
Cambodian border for our next leg of the trip.
