Day 2 in Katherine
We drove out to the river for our 8 o'clock canoeing trip. Carefully selected our life vests, picked up our paddles and headed to the water. Took me a little while to get my rowing rhythm, many years ago we used to use our Canadian canoe on Lake Burrinjuck (that was where I learnt to row). Was a beautiful trip, we were second to arrive at the Gorge only to be beaten by what looked to me like those blokes who won an Olympic medal so didn't feel to bad.
AA is the most amazing driver, better than a lot of blokes, not deterred not even a blink when passing the very frightening Road Trains, but as a paddler have to say I was better!!!!
Had a swim at Katherine Gorge water beautifully crystal clear. It was a really beautiful place and I felt very blessed to be there. Paddled back at a very leisurely rate and did not see any fresh water crocs basking, evidently it was too early in the day.
Went to the Visitors Centre and Museum and bought 2 ice creams $9.75! We made our own salad rolls for lunch sitting by the river, lovely breeze. Headed back at 1pm for the river trip, we went to the first Gorge where we had gone by canoe. The boat could not go over the rocks due to lower water levels during the dry season. Had a bit of a walk to catch the next boat to No 2 Gorge. We had another swim there (see PA). Had a leisurely trip back. On the way back we stopped at the Katherine Hot Springs, had another swim, beautiful spot. Another BBQ cooked to perfection by AA and great salads.
Early night as I was bit tired after the canoeing and walking and swimming.
