I don't know if I will be able to (or want to) write an update for every day, but I figured I will keep the momentum while I have it! After about 18 hours of travel and then all of the exploring we did yesterday, we crashed. Hard. We fell asleep about 10:30 and did not wake up until close to Noon. It was wonderful! Once we got up, we went to the cafe in our hotel and got sandwiches and coffee to get us rolling. I messed up and made us order the wrong thing so we basically got a shot of strong espresso, which Ashley did not enjoy too much. Once we finished there, we decided to check out the viking ship museum which was across the bay. We walked down to the harbor where we ate last night and caught a ferry that took us across.
The boat ride was really nice and we got to check out all of the surrounding islands and take in the view of the city from the water. The viking ship museum was small but really interesting. They squeezed in 3 old ship ruins and the various viking artifacts into an old church. Once we were done there we grabbed a beer at a restaurant on the water while we waited to catch the ferry back. Once across we went to get dinner at restaurant we had looked up. It was advertised as one of the "oldest cafes" in Oslo, but what we did not expect was it to be like a Luby's cafe. You literally grabbed a tray. The food was good though and we got to try traditional Norwegian dishes of meat cakes and Salmon, so it worked out in the end.
After dinner, it was still early and we had plenty of energy since we had slept in so late. We decided to walk to the Frogner Park and Vigeland Sculpture Park. It was a bit of a hike, but we found it with no issues. The park was best described by a little English boy we met on the ferry - "A lot of butts… and penises". Across the bridge in the park were all nude statues in various poses and that theme basically carried over to all aspects of the park. It was a very nice park though and it seems Norwegians love to sunbathe as they were everywhere! We also saw everyone had a single use, ready made BBQ pit which was basically a tin foil pan filled with charcoal with a cooking surface attached. In the center of the park, there is the Monolith which is a huge granite statue of what else but naked bodies. It was on top of a raised platform which gave us a great view of the park. After that, we grabbed a beer that they only brew for the park cafe which was really good.
