We have made it to Germany! The train ride was really neat yesterday. About halfway through, the conductor came on and let us know everyone would need to get off the train for about an hour as we crossed. We thought this was strange and then looked up and they were driving the train onto a ferry! We were on a train, in a boat. Train-ception. So while the ferry crossed into germany, we went above and sat on the deck and drank a beer and enjoyed the ride.
Once we got into Hamburg, we again were staying very close to the Central Station. We have gotten lucky with all of our hotels / hostels this trip. Hamburg unfortunately is just a stop over for us, so this should be pretty short. We needed a day to do laundry and we wanted to break up the long trip to Munich. Our hostel is nice and big. Has a very "hostel" environment with the community bar and tons of people running around. We had originally booked beds in a 6 person dorm but when we went in there was stuff everywhere and it was sooo hot. We decided it would be easiest to upgrade to a private room so we could spread out all the laundry we had. It was still super hot, but much more comfortable. Basically our night was spent doing laundry, drinking beer (which is only 2.9 Euro for a .5 liter. I can afford to drink again!) and getting organized. We did finish the laundry around 9 so we caught the S Bahn to a beer haul on the harbor called Blockhaus. The beer was okay and I got my first schnitzel of the trip and we at least got to do some walking around.
Sad to say that was it for Hamburg. We are on the train to Munich now. My sister and parents got us a hotel room for wedding present and it looks soo nice. Probably too nice. But it does advertise it has AC, which I know Ashley is looking forward to!
