1 one-armed driver, 18 passengers, 2 huge backpacks, 50 kilos of rice, a spare tire and 3 canisters of what we can only hope is not gasoline make for one interesting bemo-ride!

After some days in the airy mountain resort, it was time for us to get back to ground level - and get going to Bali again, so we can cross the island and get over to Java eventually. This was a loooong day of travelling, with the last five hours on a local ferry. The slow ferry back to padangbai did not have a lot to offer in terms of entertainment (except for a group of noisy American backpackers), so Morten took a looong nap :)

'Schlachtfest' Here is proof for our little 'slaughter story' - this goat was not exactly treated gently, but the guy hacking it into pieces on the dusty floor was definitely the villages main attraction! Here you can see the skin being prepared (I am sparing you the more gory pictures for now ;)

Sorry for not blogging so long! But either internet connections have been dodgy or non-existent, or I was simply too lazy (crazy how quickly you get used to NOT writing anything at all!) to type it up. So now I have lots of days to catch up on! This pic was taken when we were taking a walk along a small river/ canal in the foothills of the stunning volcano Rinjani on Lombok. Somehow a bottle of Bintang seems to sneak into all of our favourite pictures - but beer is not the only reason Morten looks so satisfied! We had a great day with a dive in the morning and saw lots of enormous sea turtles, then had a cheap lunch of fresh grilled fish with a nice new acquaintance - Tess from Utrecht - and ended up having home-roasted coffee at a local fisherman's home. That's a full day on the island - and tomorrow we're going fishing!
