Toilet paper that tears along the dotted line. One of my pet hates is dotted lines that don't tear straight.
Being able to flush the toilet paper!! Not going there.
DECAF COFFEE. We knew it would be difficult to get here. We brought some decaf coffee bags from home (lighter than a jar and less apt to break in transit), but they’re long gone. They were eked out by double dunking. We even tried a third dunk with Milo to make "mocha" – once.
I found boxes of decaf sachets in the supermarket - the ones with whitener and sweetener added. I just bought one to see how they were. I discovered I could strain the milk powder and sugar out with the tea strainer and add my own milk – then they tasted quite good. They’re long gone now too. Alas when I went back to the supermarket they didn’t have any left. Now I duck into any supermarket I pass just in case.
Nice crusty bread. The bread here tends to be very light and sweet - even the savoury variety.
Apart from these, there’s not really much else to miss. A large part of the reason for coming here was to do something different. It’s great to come away and leave a lot of “baggage” behind. It’s a good opportunity to step out of our own culture and look at it from the outside. It keeps everything in perspective.

Frank and Lyn Only just discovered your blog today and have been suitably impressed (that you have learned how to blog) and entertained. We are beginning to create our own 'picture' of life in China. Plans for Canada and a 'Runners Brekky' in Hong Kong in July 2012 are proceeding - more information to follow. Frank is envious of the role of the Domestic Goddess - Chinese Style and is (almost) regretting living in two storeys. We particularly envy the twin tub - our washing machine is 'unwell' so hand washing is the order of the day until 'the man' can come. We look forward to the next instalment of 'My life in Lanzhou' which is not quite the same as Time goes by, 'My Life in Kenya' but just as much fun.
clive Hi AvenelGreat blog keep it coming - want to know how the cooking is progressing!Any sign of work for you yet?loveClive
