Istanbul is definitely one of the great cities in the world and Turkey has loads to offer. I was in Turkey for about 18 days or so, and I did not even scratch the surface partly due to time constraints and partly due to the fact that I am a sissy and can't stand cold weather. As a result, I did not even attempt to head to Eastern Turkey which is supposed to be like night and day different from Western Turkey. If you are looking for a place to spend two to six weeks, then head this way. You will definitely enjoy it.
My only advice is to use the local airlines to get around as opposed to long bus rides and to drink lots of fresh squeezed orange juice from the street vendors. Fresh juice is not only plentiful, but it is also the absolute best orange juice that you will ever have. I was a regular customer. We in the west have no clue what we are missing when it comes to fresh tasting fruit and veg.
After a brief stop in Germany where I shoveled snow for the first time in my life, I am now in Spain. Life is good and this still beats the hell out of working for a living.
Take care,
Jason
