I spent the past 4 days in Singapore. It's a very interesting place. It's obviously located in South East Asia but it also looks very European in many sort of way.
It's very clean, has plenty of building of all sorts of influence and many different areas very different from one another. Little India and Chinatown don't need any definition but there's also the Marina with the impressive Marina Bay Sands hotel and it's probably over 4000 rooms. There's also a pretty nice botanic garden. Not the best I've seen but the Gardens by the Bay make it up for it. This huuuge garden is located behind Marina Bay Sands hotel and has many sort of small themed areas as well as fake sustainable trees. Every night a music and sound show of about 5 to 8 minutes is displayed. It's really well done and to be honest I could only see a city like Singapore have such an odd yet nice sort of show. I believe I would have enjoyed it differently if I had not set foot on the canopy. I really thought it would be nice to go up there, see the lights from there. But I had not realised the way was very narrow and I ended up looking up, far up, the entire way or kneel down and hold on tight to the rail when I wanted to take a picture.Only at the end of the walk (about 50m long) did I read that people scared of height should go any further....too late !
I spent the last 2 days with Julia, a german girl I met at the hostel. She told me about a hop on hop off bus from Singapore Airlines that was only 8 dollars for 24h. We used it for 48h for the same price for the drivers never read the ticket properly. We had a wander around and lunch in Chinatown then went to the Botanic Garden I was talking about earlier and Julia went back to the hostel when I went to the Canon Customer Service looking for accessories for my camera housing (that I never got my camera being "obsolete" :( ) We then went for diner in a jungle like restaurant that was expensive for Asia but nice.
On our last day we went back to Gardens by the Bay. But only to see the domes. One is called the Cloud dome and has an artificial waterfall with many different plants and flowers from high forests. It's really impressive and gorgeous. We had a great time there. The other dome is really the one I was looking forward to as it's the flower dome because I had seen very nice hibiscus from outside a couple of days before. But it was extremely disappointed as there were pretty much no flowers. And the christmas decorations were still up ! It was january 6th !!!
We went back to the hostel and Julia was going to fly back to Germany after 8 months around S.E.A. and Australia. My flight was the next day and because I had to get up at 5.30am and kept waiting for my alarm to go off, I barely slept
