This was certainly one of the more unique birthday experiences I have had, flying over the Nazca lines. Given that I had been James's passenger in a Cessna many times previously, I did not believe the tales that 90% of the passengers feel sick when flying over the Nazca lines ..... but I soon found out why. The plane makes many tight figure of 8 turns around the 15 or so images, flying mostly at a 45 degree angle on either side, so as to allow passengers on both sides of the 6-seater plane to get a good view of the images.
It still remains a mystery as to why these 100s of images (they are so large that they are visible only from the air) would have been created some 2,000 years back by the Nazca people. The lines were created by removal of the surface pebbles, which were a reddish brown hue - which contrasted with the lighter shade of gravel beneath it. These lines have been preserved all these years due to the dry and windless climate in this desert.
I spent the rest of the afternoon finishing off Mansfield Park by the pool, with a massage in between; enjoying a couple of bottles of wine with the girls whilst watching the sunset over the cornfields; finishing off with dinner and karaoke-ing to ABBA. What a totally indulgent day!!!!!!!!!
