Day One Hundred Thirty-Five - May 20
Hallo and willkommen to Germany. Today we are in the port city of Travemunde, a borough of Lubeck at the mouth of the river Trave in Lubeck Bay.
Our arrival time has the ship in at 07:00 and we are docked directly on front street. The locals in the apartments across from us must be wondering what a cruise ship is doing here. I do not think this is a regular occurrence.
The small main street is dotted with shops and restaurants. This is a beach town as can be seen by the many beach huts down by the ocean. While walking I noticed a couple in the water, it must have been cold.
Our stop here was to visit the city of Lubeck (population 217,000) which is the second largest city on the German Baltic Coast. I decided not to travel there so it was basically a walk down towards the beach front, return to the ship for lunch and then back out turning left to explore some more. Here I found the local fishermen who may have been out the previous night and are back in port selling their fresh catch.
All aboard was 18:30 with departure 19:00. There must have been several dozen people waiting to see our ship leave. The harbour master had a huge hand cutout that he was waving when we left.
Our next port of call Warnemunde, Germany is only 68 nautical miles away.
An update on Janice. She is feeling fine but still has a sore throat which she has had for a while. Its hard to say if its because of her cold or a Covid sympton. We figure alot of passengers have had Covid without knowing or have had it so I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Hopefully Janice will test negative on Sunday and she will be out of prison on Monday.
