Day Twenty nine February 3
During our stay in Hawaii, the cruise ship line made the difficult decision to alter the current itinerary significantly by cancelling the Africa and Asia ports due to covid exposure and countries not being totally open to tourists and cruise ships. The safety of the passengers and crew is always of upmost importance.
The new itinerary will travel down the west coast of Mexico, through the Panama Canal and visit the Caribbean for five weeks before sailing over the Atlantic Ocean to visit Morocco, Gilbratar and then various ports in the Mediterranean including Italy, Greece and Turkey and as far east as Jerusalem. Russia is also on the agenda at this point. The cruise would still end on July 5 in New York as originally planned.
So Janice and I had to decide if we were to stay on or leave. The cruise line was very generous in incentives to either stay or leave. It also feels much safer to stay on board than on land at this point. Well, after a two second discussion we looked at each other and said we're in on this Magical Mystery Cruise as we now call it. We were just grateful that they didn't cancel the Cruise. Even though we are not sailing to where we thought we were going, there are still 49 ports that will be new for us.
Yes I did say the next port would be Los Angeles therefore after leaving Bora Bora we will have nine seas. This is the longest time both Janice and I have been on a ship without going ashore. The Pacific Ocean can be a lonely place when you do not see any land or ships in your area. We are looking forward to this 9 sea day adventure although Janice probably a little more than me.
Stay tuned for more info on the exciting things we will be doing on our voyage to LA. I will email a copy of the new itinerary.
