It is time for Atlantis to continue her journey to the North. Eileen, a very experienced ocean racer, accepted to join me as crew. We formed already a team when we sailed from Cape Agulhas to Simons town in South Africa.
Our first trip took Atlantis back from Aratu to Itaparica island in order to clean the hulls and do some last repairs to the sailbag which got damaged in a storm. Eileen was so kind to bring a repair kit from South Africa. (Together with some nice South African wine, the traditional biltong and ....a new water filter for the pump)
We sailed into the Baia Dos Todos Santos at 13:00h BRT with a 15-20kts headwind, incoming tide and waves....not the ideal conditions for Atlantis as she was not happy at all. The fore- and mainsail were raised, but we had to leave one motor running to keep on course for Itaparica. Unfortunately a catamaran is not very keen to sail close to the wind and we were to lazy to tack.
After a 4 hour sail (18 NM) we safely reached the island and dropped the anchor in front of the yacht club.
Our next destination will be Salvador city to check out of the Bahia region, provision the boat with food, and fill the fuel and water tanks.
